Individual Visitors

Key information

Warning Individual visitors (and groups of less than 12 visitors) cannot book in advance.
Our permanent exhibition in the Globe and our movie Discover CERN (13 minutes) are freely accessible and do not require any booking.
On selected days freely accessible science shows are also proposed, without registration, in the Globe.
Guided tours can be registered on site only, maximum 1 hour in advance upon availability.
Free entrance All our activities are free of charge.

Permanent exhibition in the Globe (level 0)

What can be visited? The entire universe is made up of particles, but where do they come from? What laws govern their behaviour? The purpose of the "Universe of Particles" exhibition is to allow visitors to discover the big questions of contemporary physics currently being explored by CERN via the LHC and other accelerators.
2 hours long We recommend you allow 20 to 60 minutes for your visit 
Recommended from 14 years old Our exhibition welcomes all ages but again best enjoyed for ages 14+
Minors must be accompanied by adults
Film 6 minutes-long immersive multimedia show every quarter past the hour (:15) in English and every quarter to the hour (:45) in French
Language Our exhibition is available in 4 languages (English, French, German and Italian)

Discover CERN movie in the Globe (level 1)

Film 13 minutes long movie to discover CERN: its missions, its governance, its people, its incredible machines, its most important discoveries and what it changes for you in your daily life
Language By default in English, subtitled in French. Booked groups may have priority to get the movie in their own language.

Guided tours for individuals

Mandatory Registration Mandatory registration at the main desk, upon availability, maximum one hour in advance.
Given the very high demand, it is not unusual that all places are gone at opening of registration one hour before the tour.
No online registration.
What can be visited? Guided tours for individuals consist of a visit to the Synchrocyclotron followed by the ATLAS visitor centre
Tours take place both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather conditions
Guided tours for individuals do not include any underground visits
2 hours long Guided tours for individuals last about 1 hour 30 minutes
It is not possible to leave a guided tour before the end
Less than 11 visitors Guided tours for individuals can be registered for 5 persons in one registration.
Tours are organised in groups of 24, in a single language: French or English
Valid ID required Guided tours take place inside CERN fenced site. Therefore you will be requested to provide the details of all the members of your party at the time of registration (last name, first name, date of birth, place of birth, country of birth and nationality) - More information on what we do with visitors’ personal data.
